what might be the case if the gearbox starts to make a high pitch humming noise (i assume its the gearbox). it only does it in 3rd 4th & 5th so far but im sure that will change
just wondering if anyone went through the same thing, and what the result was.

and if i replace the gearbox (if thats what it is) is there a stronger gearbox to fit a 1990i B202, & should i do the clutch at the same time ?

Could be the output shaft bearings, if so it requires a strip & rebuild.(specialist £500-£750 inc new slave cylinder.Main dealer circa £2000!)
9000 clutches seem to last forever, so if its "not broken" don't fix it!

well the pitch of the sound doesnt change between gears so i think (un-educated guess) it might be the input shaft,(and its getting rough to change) and the clutch is fairly high on the peddal but only slips if you drop it so might get one to save pulling it out again.

plus its getting lots of play in the drivetrain between foot down & foot up on the throttle, would this be the gearbox or is it likely to be the mounts(that will be replaced soon anyway becouse of lotsa wear)??

this is all to accompany the existing rattles under the car somewhere
