Good question and thanks for link Wrighar.

I fit winter tyres, my summers are 18's and my winters are 16's (Saab OEM alloys). According to the 9-3 owners manual it does state what size summer and winters you can fit to your car, it shows both rim size & tyre dimension. But be careful, if your fitting SAAB OEM rims and sizes are within the guide from the manual then you are OK. But.. if you fit aftermarket alloys then that is classed as a mod.

if you have to tell your insurance company im sure it all depends on the company, but doing the insurance quotes on comparethemarket unmodified my insurance can be £328 with an unknownish company (but modified cheapest is £475, however the same company (esure) is showing £473 unmodified so being modified drops a lot of the "cheap" companies off the list but the difference on like to like (£2) is nothing to worry about as long as the company is one of the recognised insurers (or a policy that they dont really care)

As above....every car has a users manual that lists the plethora of tyres and wheel combinations(summer and winter) that are approved for fitting.
So....as long as you are using something on that list I dont see why you would need to contact your insurer at all.
