Does anyone know if it's true that if you put 3 cd's left, right, and centre of the windscreen shiny side out this deflects speed camera beams giving a false and unusable reading as I drive an over blown 2.3 9000 this must be of use to enable me to keep a clean licence

Quentin didn't mention this on 5th Gear tonight, so it may work.

The only sure way to fool a speed camera is false number plates.

Do they still make those revolving ones James Bond had on his Aston in the 60's

There may be times when you need the real number showing.

Somebody mentioned the James Bond revolving number plates.
It appeared that I had then on a MkII Escort back in the early '80S, revolved then 7 or 8 times in quick succession, on an 'A' road near Maidstone.
Problem was that the rest of the car went with them, and I ended up shaken (and extremely stirred) half way up a steep bank.
That was last time anything ever revolved on that car

To cut down on the number of CD's - best if everyone just sticks one over their nearest Gatso camera lense using bluetack!
Shinny side out of course - so the driver can see it far off and smile for his head and sholders (only!) picture!

Aparently, you can get special 'reflective' number plates which dazzle the Gatso camera/print, rendering the numbers unreadable! Anyone heard of these and if there is any legislation against them?

Some 'biker's use a pull cord mechanism to hike there No plate up when on a fast run! There's a thought! (NB: But you can get prosecuted for this if the police check your car!)

The police changed the 'temperature sensitivity' of the cameras a while back to overcome the reflective plates. The blokes who sell them limit their 'guarantee' to refunding the cost if you're caught. So if 1 in 50 get a ticket they sell rubbish and keep 98% of income. Sounds like a good business proposition

Ther are radar confusers available in the states for $300 has anyone any experience of these ?
Also in japan the speedsters put hinges on the top of their numberplate so the plate is always moving and confuses the camera's ..sounds a good trick ??

Thanks for the info sgould. You could be saving a surfer a lot of dosh and a few points. Ignorance would'nt be bliss for too long!

Quote: they sell those number plates for bikes on Ebay for about £30, they fold in half for a fast run showing the number 123 ABC

All I can add is:
Pity the guy who owns 123 ABC though!
Although he of course gets off every time too as the evidence is no longer safe!

There is a better answer to this problem,of late I have seen at least two Gatso's that have been "modified" ie;someone has obviosly backed a trailer up against them so that the only thing they are likely to book are low flying 747's.
One was on the A38 just below the fire station in Northfield, the other was in Nottingham somewhere.
