Folding Door Mirrors

Hi All,

I've currently got an 07 Plate Vector Sport with the facelift dash. It's got the manually folding mirrors. For a while I've wanted to add the electrically folding mirrors. I've been offered the door mirrors (LH: 12833414 RH: 12833421 and interior switch:12801063) at a decent price so am seriously thinking about adding this.

I realise that Tech II will be needed to make the car aware of the electric door mirrors. Is there anything else I'll need? Will the required wiring already be in place? Will the door modules just need to be reprogrammed via Tech II to tell them they've now got electric door mirrors instead of manual?

All help/advice appreciated before I take the plunge and buy the parts...

Many Thanks... James

Hi Mogwye I don't suppose you took any photo's of what you did? To make an uber useful "how to" by any chance? What's the DCM? Is there one for each side? If not, how did you get the two wires from the passenger side mirror all the way over to the DCM (depending on where it actually is!!)? or vice versa if the DCM is on the passenger side in any case....
Google, google and google :D Here you go...found some instructions on how to remove the DCM's which also gives the locations (obviously)

This was taken from another site...I can't link to it...

"Here is what the Haynes book says about Door Control Modules.

1) The door control modules ( fitted to each door ) control the operation of the electric windows, door mirrors, courtesy lighting at the base of the door, and the function of the central locking motors within the door locks. All the door modules are networked together, and share information with all the other modules on the network.

2) To remove a module, first remove the door trim panel. CAUTION: THE MODULES ARE EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO STATIC ELECTRICITY. PRIOR TO TOUCHING THE MODULE, ' EARTH YOURSELF BY BRIEFLY TOUCHING A BARE METAL PART OF THE VEHICLE BODY OR ENGINE.

5) Undo the retaining screw, release the clips and remove the module from the door trim.

6) Refitting is a reversal of removal. Note that if a new module has been fitted, it may be necessary to have the software reprogrammed using dedicated Saab diagnostic equipment. Entrust this task to a Saab dealer or suitably equipped specialist. ( sounds like it will need TEC II if you swop a door control module ).

EDIT: Edited this in IE to see if it retains formatting...

This is really useful - many thanks.

Just to check my understanding then - when connecting in the two wires to each DCM in each door panel, I'm wondering if Tech 2 is needed at all, as the DCM aren't being changed.... just having an extra couple of wires plugged into them!

Just trying to be as tight as possible, and not have to visit the non-existent main dealers unless I really, really have to! Fingers crossed that my 2005 has the fuller loom in any case, and they just need plugging in and activating at worst.
From what I have read and this is my understanding, Tech 2 is needed to enable the option for it, I think they might just work without Tech 2 on the button on the door as that is a switch. But for them to fold automatically when locked/unlocked and after moving more than 20ft that would be a Tech 2 option as the DCM needs to tell the car that they are there for those options to work.

If you get these fitted and working can you update this thread on what you had to do. I'm interested in knowing if all I need is the switch and folding mirrors, as they have another option for a reversing posistion (don't want my nice 17's scratched!) and I'm curious to know if this works by fitting the mirrors/switch and enabling the folding in tech 2, or if there is another option in tech 2 that also needs editing, like when reverse is engaged the mirrors automatically move down to kerb level (I assume this to be the case) as potentially there could be another wire that needs wiring in to the harness.

Hope this helps,

Dave.

EDIT: The auto dipping mirrors to kerb level is called Saab Parking Assist, just got to see if anyone has fitted this after buying a car or if it only comes with cars with the reversing sensors, and find a wiring diagram if it has been fitted!
