Hi All,

I've currently got an 07 Plate Vector Sport with the facelift dash. It's got the manually folding mirrors. For a while I've wanted to add the electrically folding mirrors. I've been offered the door mirrors (LH: 12833414 RH: 12833421 and interior switch:12801063) at a decent price so am seriously thinking about adding this.

I realise that Tech II will be needed to make the car aware of the electric door mirrors. Is there anything else I'll need? Will the required wiring already be in place? Will the door modules just need to be reprogrammed via Tech II to tell them they've now got electric door mirrors instead of manual?

All help/advice appreciated before I take the plunge and buy the parts...

Many Thanks... James

Hi James, I wanted to do the same on my 06 model and I had sourced all the parts really cheaply. I had thought that the wiring may have already been in place but it wasn't. In the earlier cars they all had the same wiring loom so it was easy to add the extras it seems, after about 2005 it seems they cut down the wiring loom depending on the options. I had a garage check all of mine as I missed the extras like heated seats, folding mirrors, even the boot release switch on the door and none of it was there. Of course you may be luckier than me. I asked if they could wire in the mirrors and they could but it was going to be £300+ to do it. David

Hi, as said above the wiring won't be there but the wiring is only 2 wires from the door control module up to the mirror.

So what you need is 2 electric folding mirrors, mirror switch with folding button on it and 4 bits of wire to do the both sides.
Oh and tech2 to reprog the door modules.

A fairly easy install really.

Hi James, sounds like you did the same as me, 1st thing I did was the rear view mirror and I was chuffed when I saw the wiring was there which is why I checked to see if the wiring was there for the mirrors!
Merve, is it really as simple as that? I really don't like messing around with the electrics but it may be worth me finding an auto electrician to see if it's something he can do.

A little bit of thread resurrection here for the brave of heart.

I have a 2007 (new shape dash / old shape body) 9-3SS. It didn't have folding mirrors which I wanted and so took heart from people saying the wiring was there, just add the mirrors and tech 2 it.

The bad news is the wiring isn't there for the 2007 onwards if it wasn't fitted with folding mirrors to start with (saving money on looms?). The good news is as Merve84 said, it really is 4 bits of wire, 2 folding mirrors, tech 2 and away.

I have just built the 2 x 2 wire looms and connected them into the DCM (Door Control Modules), a quick visit to the dealer and we are up and away.

So don't let the "naysayers" put you off, all it takes it time and a wee bit of patience.

GOOD LUCK!

Hi Mogwye, I am really pleased you have managed to do it, is there any chance of some details of what you did? Thanks[/b]
PREP.
Firstly I spent a couple of hours looking at WIS and found the wiring connection points (details later). I then looked up the wiring size and colours that were originally used (I am retentive about it looking original). I ordered the correct wire type and colour and also some additional connector pins for use in the DCM.

INSTALLATION.
The folding wing mirrors have an extra grey plug above the standard black electrical connection plug. This has 2 mini spade connectors in it, these are BOTH live feeds. Using a custom built (2 wires in heat shrink tubing) loom, one gets connected into pin 18 of the drivers DCM and the other into pin 31 of the same drivers DCM. Do exactly the same for the passenger side and the wiring is done.
Which wire goes to which DCM doesn't really matter because if your mirrors fold out of sync with each other, just swap the spade connectors at the grey mirror plug on one side and you are OK again!

TECH2.
Go to your dealer and get them to TECH2 the DCMs (both need doing) to tell them that folding mirrors are fitted.

You now have folding mirrors. What is REALLY cool is that if you forget to unfold them, they automatically fold out at 20MPH.

Hi!!

I own a 2006 93 Cabrio with a broken side mirror which doesn't fold since one month ago. I've been offered a new one from a 2007 SportSedan. Does anyone knows if it will fit??? I don't know if it's the same part...

Thanks!!!

mrdo, are you talking about Car Parts Connexion? If so, yes they will ship within the UK, I have bought quite a few bits from various dealers in the past, I guess the shipping would be about £8 as they are quite heavy.

i am indeed !

thanks for the update - i'll give them a try ...

would i be correct in saying that my colour coded wing mirrors are just standard units with coloured covers i.e i can take the covers from my current wing mirrors and attach them to any new wing mirrors ?

thanks in advance ...

The switch replaces the existing one. It has 2 extra buttons on it. One for folding the mirror and the other one to lower the mirror.

These are the various versions of the mirror switch for SS 2004-2006:
