Which car?
If it's Trionic (and if it's a fault that lights the "check engine" light), it flashes at you. Details of how to interpret them are in the following document.
Trionic flash codes
More detailed fault codes can be had by getting a dealer to read them for you. My local dealer only charged about £20 to do this. This, and dealer-only parts, are the only things I use them for these days.

Gadgeteer,
...will drop the other one sometime soon. Thanks for offer of checking the codes but I was on my scooter (see you got a bike!) as the car is with the "dealer" since last Monday to have the high boost "hiccupp" problem checked ....here is the funny bit, it has them totally at wits end! They can't find what is causing the problem??? ....ON GOING for now, will report here when they ring to tell me car is ready....watch this space!
