I have a 94 cde injection in good nick but with a broken engine and transmission and a knackered 90 2.0ltr ftp with excellent engine a box, is it feasible to put the earlier engine into the later car? I've had an insurance quote that was surprisingly realistic.

Break both and use the cash made to buy a newer and better car. I'd imagine you could make £5K no problem, which would buy you a nice Aero. Which would also be cheaper to insure than the "monkey with a baboons heart".

I was surprised to get a quote for the final hybrid of only £50pa more than I pay now although I'll believe it when I see it in writing.

I reckon I'll be lucky to get more than £500 for the bits and this will take some time.

I'd expect it to be a very straight forward job. But, time consuming and fiddly. All the electronics would also need changing over. Mechanically I dont think there were any mounting point changes that would stop the swap. Maybe worth asking a Saab specialist to quote for the job - if he does quote then it can be done

5K for a load of '90/'94 Saab 9000 parts? Hard to imagine, unless the pile includes a racing gearbox with LSD, two monster ball bearing hybrid turbo's, two sets of 16" Aero/Super Aero alloys, and two full leather interiors autographed by Erik Carlsson.
I fear Rob's own £500 figure would be closer to the truth. Besides, I would think most of us neither have the time to break two cars into saleable pieces and arrange to have the bare frames carted off to the scrapyard afterwards (the cost of which will have to be deducted from the proceeds anyways) nor the space to store all the stuff inside and the willingness to p*** off the neigborhoods by turning your driveway into a wrecking yard...

If it were that easy, there would hardly be any older Sabs on the road, and I'd be rich...
