Morning all,

A week or so ago on a narrow North Wales road with rocks either side of it my driver's door mirror had a rather too close encounter with an oncoming car. The mirror housing survived okay but the glass is broken and the plastic bits that hold the mirror mount to the motors are destroyed. So, I'm loking for some bits to repair it with. Cheaply. Euro Car Parts do the whole mirror unit for 170 quid, so I've not bothered asking Saab how much it would be from them!

p.s. a couple of weeks ago I posted a query about my clutch. Turned out it was the feed pipe that had given up, so it was a relatively quick and easy fix.

People have been talking about clunking clutches, well mine has done it on 2 occasions in the past few years, but it goes away and everything feels perfectly normal afterwards. Maybe I should have look at my clevis!

If my clunk only happens once/year then it doesnt worry me.

However next service I will get this "clevis" checked.

They both have lots of spares & do mail order which comes dead quick.

Probably worth trying both as prices vary, and they are probably more expensive than your local breaker, but the local guy probably wont have what you want (SAABs being big cars guess what gets broken 1st !!!)

I had this happen a couple of years ago. The glass had just gone up to £60-odd (I got it at the old price of £40-odd) and the mechanism including the motors was around £35. All from the dealer. A ridiculous price for a piece of glass, even if it is electrically heated.

If you're buying from ECP, I believe the motor assembly is described on there as "Electric mirror motor".

What do the SAAB centre do ?
(I know there may be a clue in the name but wondered what you used them for as they are only 50 -60 miles from me and might be worth the effort to go there if I need some things)

Saab Centre are basically an indy Saab specialist for servicing but like many, they also break cars for spares. They specialise mainly in C900 and 9000.

They're equipped with ISAT so can carry out full diagnostics.

They've serviced my Saabs for the last 5 years, no real gripes.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll try DCA first (Saab breakers, sorry, "dismantlers") in Reading, and maybe try Neo Bros and 2 S 2 Turbo for a comparison. It's not too urgent. Even though the old glass is shattered it's all in place, and the mirror styas in the housing okay - I just have to make sure I don't try and move it for parking or whatever otherwise it pops out.

Hi Kevin, yes I'm back for "good", or at least until I get a decent offer to go somewhere else.
