We recently purchased a 900i 16v classic conv. 1991. 93,000 miles. I drove it to work the other day - coming home put the rear window heater on - a second later the rear screen shattered. My wife explained to our insurance company who at first said no probs - take it to a main dealer and get it fixed with no excess to pay. However - as soon as the cost was mentioned and that the rear glass is attached to fabric which inserts in the hood - the insurance company are now saying we have to claim on our ins. as it is part of the body of the car?? Has anyone else had this prob?

For my twopennerth, you really need to check the details of your policy as to what is covered by the glass section of it. It may be that the insurers are thinking it's a flexible plastic rear window, which could arguably be part of the bodywork as it's not glass
