I'd be surprised if that car wasn't the worse for wear after sitting for that long!
Was it yourself that was selling the big Merc 500? Always fancied one of those - bit thirsty though!
If the car had been sat for that long, I can't see that it'd be worth even £500.
If it's not too far, I'd give it a look. Just had a quick look on Autotrader - for £1200 you can get:
"1992 9000 CS 2.3i Auto K reg, 5dr hatchback.PAS, ABS, e/windows x 4, e/mirrors, e/drivers seat with memory, heated seats,full leather,FSH. Excellent condition,Scarabe Green. 146000 miles."
Obviously that may be an old nail, but it could be a peach too! Don't want to put a damper on things, but you'd be better selling the Merc private for a few hundred less, freeing you up to buy whatever you want.
I know what it's like though - it's often easier to get the part-ex, to save the hassle of selling - I was the same.
