I went to see a 9000 turbo today for £995,a G plate and it didn't even have an Mot/Tax,no bad eh!,I might go and see one tommorrow just past Carlisle,someone by the name of north East Premier Motors,same year but leather ect,long mot,some Tax,for £1550.
Now that sounds like a better buy doesn't it!,well I hope.

What I meant to say in the last post,just what do Dealers think these cars are still worth,I mean it had a broken wood facia/drivers mirror,rust & that fusty stuff in the Engine bay,and it wasn't even leather!.
its got to be worth all of £200 ish,do you think?,but he said he would put a hammer through it first,before he reduced the price,Dodgy Dealer no 89,979,I think.

Hi Jon - I think you're better off avoiding dealers and buying from an enthusiast who's upgrading. As you say, they're not in the real world when it comes to valuations of older saabs.

i bought a 1990 cds model, fully loaded, leather cd, acc the lot with 12 months mot £340, he wanted £300 for it with 8 days ticket, so we agreed to take it in only failed on a cracked/broken indicator light, and an exhaust rubber missing, so 300 for car 40 for 12 month ticket. yeah fair enough it has 149,000 hardly any history, and i had to change the head gasket about 4 months after buying it £200 for that, but a truly fantastic car, with a cracking body.

I would buy from an enthusiast,but I am looking to trade my car in against it,so I couldn't do it the way you are suggesting.

The Trade In will probably be terrible though. Don't get me wrong - see what they say. You never know.

When I was selling my previous 9000, a CS 2.0 LPT with FSSH and 160k miles, I asked (out of interest) what the part ex would be against a F reg 9000 2.0 FPT that was up for £2500. They wanted my car, plus £1000 for theirs. That's a 1992 CS (exc. condition) plus £1000 for a 1988 older shape 9000T with similar miles.

Needless to say I sold private - I wouldn't have bought that F reg for £1000!

There are bargains out there - plenty of LPT CS's for under £2k now. (Some under £1k!)

yes the trade in is quite bad,the company I mentioned earlier NE Premier Motors in Durham or near it,they were offering me £800-1200 for mine (Merc by the way),you see because I dont have a FSH for the Merc they are offering me stupid money,and thats the best offer I have had so far.

Only thing that is putting me off a bit is the distance,well then again I am prepared to travel for the right car,but and its a BIG!! but,you can only get so much information over a phone,both parties need to see what each other are getting.

I notice at the bottom of your letter you say you wouldn't have bought that F plate for £1000,its going to take a complete idiot take take that off his hands at that price.
And what I failed to mention is he said it had been sitting in the forecourt for 6 years,yes thats right 6 bloody years!!,personally I think thats [expletive deleted],but then again why would he say that if it wasn't true,I'm also a bit miffed to say the least!!

I'd be surprised if that car wasn't the worse for wear after sitting for that long!

Was it yourself that was selling the big Merc 500? Always fancied one of those - bit thirsty though!

If the car had been sat for that long, I can't see that it'd be worth even £500.

If it's not too far, I'd give it a look. Just had a quick look on Autotrader - for £1200 you can get:

"1992 9000 CS 2.3i Auto K reg, 5dr hatchback.PAS, ABS, e/windows x 4, e/mirrors, e/drivers seat with memory, heated seats,full leather,FSH. Excellent condition,Scarabe Green. 146000 miles."

Obviously that may be an old nail, but it could be a peach too! Don't want to put a damper on things, but you'd be better selling the Merc private for a few hundred less, freeing you up to buy whatever you want.

I know what it's like though - it's often easier to get the part-ex, to save the hassle of selling - I was the same.

What does everyone else think?

in nov 2001 bought a 9000 turbo dec 1989 registered, G plate MY1990 for £1,395: FSSH, MoT to July 2002, 95,000 miles. this from an enthusiast's advert. in the saab owners club web pages, piles of receipts, MoT's etc. brand new di unit, new Continental tyres, replacement gearbox.

i have spent a bit on new suspension bushes, new battery plus odds and sods for about £250 and need to replace the clutch, turbo, head gasket and timing chain....about £1,300 all in from a saab specialist. it goes like a rocket (185bhp) and on my commute to work (about 20 miles each way) can return a genuine 35 mpg at a steady 50-60 mph.

if i bought from a dealer i would have paid a lot more but might have got a warranty to cover the turbo and timing chain IF THEY BROKE. as it is i will do the remedial work and know that all is well. except for the gearbox, but that's another story!

moral to the story? buy from enthusiasts but be prepared for the fair wear and tear bills, or from a specialist dealer you can trust and pay over the odds...they gotta make a living.

I forgot to say- Nothing is going to plan just now,but like I said in a previous letter,I dont want another Auto,well in a six or something maybe,but Saab only make the V6.

But I think I will stick to the 9000's and turbo's at that,someone said (not on here) why dont you get a 900,'mmmmm' (not meaning to offend anyone)but I dont like the shape of them.

Well I will just have to keep my eyes open,and see what happens.

I know this is 9000 forum , but my last car was a 900 Turbo 1985, the booted 2 door model.
Superb car, more of a brutal performer. 900's are just quirky, compared to the 9000's.
Fell in love with mine quite quickly. As a kid, I thought they looked Weird, as an adult, you have to own a 900 Turbo,and the shape grows on you. Not so keen on the hatchback shape after saying that though, but still..
