The radio/casette unit in my '96 CSE now has a "dim" display - very difficult to read - as if the "OFF" segments are partly lit and the ON segments aren't bright enough.
Does anyone recognise this symptom? Is it fixable, or do I have to get another unit?

Mine does similar, though I'm just living with it. Sorted it on the radio on my old Carlton, by taking the front off the unit and soldering new (v small) bulbs on where they had failed behind the display. I'm sure it's do-able if you're nimble fingered and patient enough.

I have not tried this inside a radio but I have taken to fitting LEDs instead of the usual panel light bulbs - they last forever. You have to get the sort with a built in resistor and fit them with the correct polarity.
