I have a 93 9000 CS 2.0 LPT which has now done 97k miles.
For the last 10k, the pinion bearings have been getting noisier and I am worried that they will give up soon. I have done butterfly bushes, turbo coolant pipe and heater matrix on this car and I need help deciding what to do.
I can source a reconditioned gearbox for about £400 and Trent Saab will fit new clutch, slave and master and exchange box for around £500.
Do you think it is worth doing or should I start saving for a replacement car altogether ?
Please can you offer advice, especially iy anyone out there has been in the same position. Thanks

hi there
generally the 95k-105k point is where lots of expensive things can need fixed. The two biggies are gearbox and timing chain. If I've read it right, you're talking about a total for gear box and clutch of £900. If your timing chain needs doing, then the cost at a good specialist is about £500 all in. Then again your timing chain may be fine for 20k more.

I guess it all depends on how much you like your car and how much it would cost to replace with similar/ newer. There's also always the "better the devil you know..." factor. HTH
