Hi... sorry to be that guy that joins to whine about their broken car... but that’s what’s happening 😁
I have a 05 plate 93 2 litre petrol convertible and lately the weather is making me wish I had a submarine.
on Sunday it was absolutely siling it down here in the East Midlands... but I needed to take my daughter home, so went to the car...
The windows were steamed like it was a sauna & the seals were leaking and the roof saturated... but that’s kind of by the by as what happened next has left me with a ragtopped breeze block
I switched the fan on to try and de steam the windows and it died.. closely followed by the rest of the car... the ignition wouldn’t fire (not even a click) I got out n tried to lock it; which didn’t work... but then the alarm started going off....
I will admit I panicked and started madly pressing buttons on the key whilst it was in and out of the ignition....
eventually a combo of this, swearing a lot and trying to kick a tyre off stopped the alarm....
I had a bit of a read and between downpours yesterday sat with the key in the ignition but not on for a while... and then repeated that in the “off” posistion...
had my mate round earlier n we tried a jumpstart... but nothing happened.... he left me with a charger so gonna try removing the battery and charging it (it’s a fancy charger with diagnostic and repair functions).
butttt I am fairly convinced I have triggered the immobiliser....
unfortunately, I have lost the dash display (Sid I think it’s called??)
When I turn the key to on it’s like the speedo needle is having a minor stroke: it vibrates like a rampant rabbit in need of new batteries
trying to start it has usually resulted in a whole heap of nothing, but at one stage it was clicking away on the dashboard....
thank you for reading my jackanory....
my questions are:
When I remove the battery will that reset the immobiliser?
is there a reset procedure?
and could I have blown some fuses or resistors or something (electrical knowledge is zero if you couldn’t tell already).
I have very recently had a new resistor fitted to get the fan up and working as that was bust when I got the car (also where I learnt a technical word like “resistor”).
I know I am a f....ing idiot, but in the words of Ms P Pitstop:
Heyulp!!!
