On my 1991 9000i the fuse was pulled on the d/r/lights when i put it back in are the side lights only meant to come on or the main light's as well ta

As I recall the day running lights are on a separate circuit to the side lights or headlights.

I think Fuse 31 put the headllight DRL's on.

With fuse 31 out only the side lights are on.

The beam of the DRLs look pretty much like the "dimmed dips" of old. So yes, it will look as though the side lights are on: they are meant to be one stage down from dipped beams .

put fuse 31 in dip beam comes on pull it out no lights bar dash on, no side lights, so i take it the day running lights are the dip beam or a dim dip as os on a audi?

Yes.

Fuse 31 will light the green Tacho lights on icon and put headlights into dim dip/drl mode.

is there much pooint in having this fuse in then as leaving the light in the on position to the right has the same effect as they only come on when you start the car up or with the ignition on, that way i will not have to remember to switch them from day running to dip beam as i forgot to do the other night as i am not used to the dash lights being on ,in the audi you cant forget lights as the dash lights come on with the main lights
