I've found a few threads on the forum regarding upgrading to include cruise control in the car.

From what I've gleamed, it should be fairly simple. Replace the standard indicator stalk with a stalk from either a vector (cheapest??) or buy a full stalk off ebay for £20+ quid. From what I've found the full stalk is P/N 5352026 or 12787315. Can't find one for the vector stalk

My question is - on a Linear, do you need to replace the stalk base, or is the base already in the car pre-wired and ready to go?

There needs to be a bit of TechII programming and that should be it. Is anyone individual knowledgable in the Loughborough/Nottingham/Leicester area or is it a case of going to a dealer?

Has anybody done this on their Linear? I do 20K miles a year and this is just about the only thing I need - other than the obligatory Parrot phone install.

When I bought my Linear spec 9-3 Convertible earlier this month - 06 plate, I'd got it in mind it had cruise, but on checking, it hadn't. The dealer checked viablilty with main Saab dealer in Oxford, expecting it to be a couple of hundred quid, but we were both surprised that they would charge £81 plus pence, and do it while-you-wait! It was £twenty-odd for the stalk, and the rest labour, presumably including a Tech2 (or whatever the Saabdealer rig's called) session.

Needless to say I had it done, but I wish I'd had a bit more info as to what could have been enabled - changing the see-you-home lights for instance during the computer session.

Regarding the phone hands-free, I bought a new-but-I-understand-now-obsolete IO Talk1 for £31 on Ebay, plus a lead from justcarkits for £28, and it's fine, half an hour to install, and the cheapest way of getting full auto radio mute etc I could find.

Yes all the stalk mounting points are the same so you just need to pull the old one out and, push the new one in and program it. job done.
All wiring is in place.

very interested in this so i can use my phone in the car. What was the extra lead for? Any chance of you putting a post on the forum of what you bought and what you did to fit it etc and what it does etc?

Latest update.

I've just rung a Saab specialist who informs me that they cant do TechII programming as Saab wont/dont give them the dongle with the software. They can only read fault codes.

If that's the case, is the programming for the cruise upgrade a dealership option only?

There are ways and means doing it using tech 2 but without a dongle. Obiously that's up to the specialist.

Did some more ringing around this afternoon - with interesting results.

Bond St Saab in Leicester wanted £220 to supply the stalk and fit (well program)!

Lincoln Saab wanted £28.50 to program if I supply the stalk :crazy:

So I've bought a stalk off Ebay! No contest.

Quick update for anyone interested.

I've finally got cruise in my 2007 1.9TiD Linear - but its taken a bit of sorting. :crazy:

I originally purchased P/N 5352026 from a supplier on Ebay - turned out to be a stalk for a 94-98 9-3. Fortunately they accepted returns. :thumbsup:

Then put in a parts request for P/N 12787315 which seemed to be the right part for my car, but got a call from a supplier to say that this part was for 1.8T models only, and I needed P/N 12785954. I accepted the advice and bought the stalk for £42. A bit expensive, but at least I got one.

Fitted it - took about a minute to do, then booked in to Lincoln Saab for Tech II programming. Took about 5 min and £28.20 later all done.

Very pleased. If I'd been told it would cost £70 or so to sort it out when I bought the car I'd have snapped their hand off.

Still cheaper than mine, it cost me £81!!! That was arranged by the dealer, before I collected the car. They had to take it from Thame to Oxford, to a main dealer, and wait for it to be done. Reading of your hassle, it could well have been worth the extra eleven quid..............

I'm looking to do this to my 9-5 TiD Linear 2006 Auto but googling P/N 12785954 comes up with some sort of bumper indicator cover. Sytner Saab in Oxford tell me they only have a part suitable for the petrol version at £81 plus fitting(!) Any clues gratefully received...!

Yes it's the later one. Haven't managed to see if the thing is on the back of the brake pedal, not sure if I'd recognise it if it is there anyway...!

Found it!

I got a 12758444 stalk for £15 off a 2008 Vector. Just plonked it into my late 2006 Dame Edna Linear 1.9TiD and it works!! No Tech2 required it seems...

ok here goes i have had my 2006 lnear 9-3 conv for a week and i was looking to fit cruise so of to a well known web site and got hold of the stalk. so far so good called into the SAAB dealer in virginia water and had a chat about it and this is the info they gave me

1. it would be £81 to program !! not to bad i thought

2. After informing them that it was a linear and manual the service person said that it would now be £170 + vat as it would now be a kit as all switches are needed, they did not look in the car

3. I was now a little mifed if not confused with the info they had given me and what have read. has anyone done this upgrade on a 9-3 conv my 2006 and if so am i being mugged off by the dealer.

Take a look at the clutch pedal to see if there's an electrical switch attached to it - it's designed to deactivate the CC if you depress the pedal

If there is, then all the pedal sensors are in place - all you'll need is the replacement stalk and someone to activate the CC via Tech 2

My 9-5 Linear didn't need any Tech2, so might be worth just bolting on the stalk (easy) and seeing if it works!
