hi all , a great forum by the way .

was thinking of fitting cruise control to my 9-5, its a 98 on an r reg , 2.3 se auto.
will it be as easy as this
http://www.saabscene.com/forum/index.php?s...=cruise+control

or will i have to get it programmed etc. there seems to be conflicting reports on this and i dont want to waste money on just a stalk if it needs the full kit .
thanks for your help in advance

I fitted the cruise stalk to my 1998 S reg 2.3SE auto a few years ago. It is just a stalk change. Nothing more.....as long as you have the pedal switches fitted.

If you are unlucky and you find you don't have the pedal switch, it's still not too bad. The car is wired for the pedal switches and you just have to slot in the brake and clutch switches (just the brake switch on an auto).

When you test, remember that the cruise is disabled under certain conditions. It won't work from starting until you have used the brake pedal once. Not usually a problem, but can catch you out if you start up - say after a motorway stop - and drive off down the road without using the brakes. Also it won't work below 26mph (40 kph).

This is true - I've done a few cruise installs now, and it's really hit'n'miss as to whether the cars have the pedal switches fitted. Whip the lower dash cover off the drivers side (3 x Torx screws) & have a look at the pedals - higher up. If you have a manual car, look for the switch fitted to the clutch pedal, and the 2 switches fitted to the brake pedal (one brake light switch & one cruise switch). If the switches aren't there you'll see the mounting position all ready for them.

The stalk is easy to fit - turn the steering wheel from straight ahead through 90 degrees, this reveals the screw blanks for the steering column shroud on either side. Undo it, take the top of the column shroud, and you'll see the tab you need to push to withdraw the switch stalk. Take it out, and replace like-for like with the Cruise one.

What I will add is that there's no programming required for the cruise (unlike, say, a Passat) in any 9-5, and that there is no switch fitted to the accelerator pedal in any 9-5 - some sellers of OE systems say there is - but there 100% isn't - and you can't get more sure than that!

Any problems, shout back on here :)

I followed the instruction, installed the stalk, fitted the clutch switch & brake switch which i salvaged from my old saab 9-5.

When I engage cruise and try to accelerate it does not do anything.

From what i've noticed the metal from the clutch or brake paddle does not touch the switch.

Any ideas ?

The first time you use cruise..Make sure the switch on the lever Clicks when you move it left. The light will light up at the top of the dash. And you are

away! I had grief until I heard the "click"

The pedal swicthes were pre installed on my X reg 9-5. I do have a spare set if you are stuck!!
