A friend of mine with a 1993 Griffin phoned last night, having had the check engine light appear. After going out to the garage in the frost and going through the sequence twice, she has 8 flashes, which seems to suggest the EVAP valve. The check engine light does not stay on whilst driving.

So, is it a random fault to be cleared and ignored until it gets serious, or is it important and should be sorted as soon as possible? A call to Two Stroke resulted in the suggestion that a collapsed fuel tank might result from a malfunctioning EVAP valve, which caused a degree of concern.

Also, what exactly does the valve do?

Thank you all in advance.
