For anyone out there with a dead or dying central locking motor in the door, I've just fitted one from Maplin for a tenner which fits the existing screw holes and works perfectly.
It's probably what Haynes would call a one-spanner job, but as figuring out how to get the doortrim off is a two-spanner job, that shouldn't be a problem

hey gang. i'm blowing my fuse on the central locking system. i have not determined if it's the lights that are shared on the system or the locking itself.

are faulty lock motors a good cause of fuses going?

Can be, but the interior lighting system is even more likely.
The boot (trunk) light can easily short out on the bodywork, its switch can too, the door "puddle lights" can get wet and short out and the light under the bonnet (hood) can short out, together with its switch, just by the radiator top.
The list is endless....
I suppose you could eliminate the central locking from the equation by disconnecting it, if anyone out there knows how to do it?
