Hi I have a 1990 2l Carlsson Just bought it The tempersture guage only moves a little way up the guage when driving although when in traffic it moves up further is this normal?? or has someone removed the thermostat, i haven't looked yet.

The temperature guage should sit at dead centre on the guage under normal conditions.

As far as I'm aware, most 9000's go higher up the guage while sitting in traffic (mine does).

The Carlsson's and Aero's pre psudo guages, should sit below the middle, at about the 8:00 position.
This is normal for the lower temp thermostats that these models run (82c instead of 89c).

Welcome to Saabscene!

Most early gauges seem to settle just below horizontal (i.e. in an 8 o'clock position) in normal free running, and rise to a little below the red in a traffic jam at which point the fan switches on. In the current hot weather however, and with the air con working hard, mine's often running about the 9 or 10 o'clock position.

Many thanks guy's Seems it's ok after all .
I'm going to flush the cooling system soon anyway so I think I'll check the thermostat when I do that

If you change the thermostat, only fit a genuine Saab one, fitted in the correct orientation, and use Saab's new longlife antifreeze at 50%, not some cheap and nasty stuff.
