Has anyone got experience of so called 'performance' (i.e. higher voltage) ignition coils on the C900? That's to say will something like the Aldon "Flame Thrower" (don't you love boy racer names
) work OK with my 8 valver's hall effect ignition or am I looking at fitting a ballast resistor too and all for a small gain in throttle response?

I believe the Bosch 'Red' Coils to be installed in 900/9000T's several times with good results (IIRC older systems with contact breaker points benefit from Bosch' 'Blue' coil, similarly).
Don't see however how it would make much difference on a non-turbo 900 except when running very high non-standard compression and/or extreme camshaft lift/duration.

The answer turns out to be 'no it wouldn't work'. The resistance is too high on the aftermarket coils (about 3 ohms instead of about 0.6 ohm) so unless I changed the whole ignition (and I'm not going to) there is no point. Could be done if I added a ballast resistor I guess but again all for little gain.
