[9000CSE]

I've just had the front pads replaced on my 1996 9000 cse - they are now making a squealing noise something akin to a cat being tortured when I put the brakes on - is this a problem or is it just the pads 'bedding in' ( to use a well-worn phrase ). Any comments appreciated.

The pads usually have a soft backing material which acts as a damper and prevents the high pitched squeal you are experiencing. This may be missing. Alternatively give the back of the pads where they contact the piston and the caliper a light coat of copper -based grease this should have the same result.

I guess this means you got it done at a garage. I might be stating the bleedin' obvious here but case take it back there before doing anything yourself in case you void whatever "warranty" the work has.

Did a SAAB dealer replace the pads? If not, then you are running with the cheapest SAAB pattern brake pads in your car. Get OE or quality pads and 'copper-grease' the backs!
