I am in the middle of an little argument with a Volvo main dealer, without going into the ins and outs, the question is,can you burn brake fluid?
Now I am talking burn as in Transmision fluid, where the oil looks brown and smells burnt,I maintain it may boil, but not burn.
opinions please.

Short answer IMO is no.

"Old" brake fluid that has been in for a long tiem and has had it's boiling point lowered by water absorption and/or boiling though heat from the brakes takes on a slightly brown appearance.

Because the fluid boils before it burns, it's therefore very difficult to get it to burn. I suppose in very extreme conditions, it may be possible but by then I would expect to see glowing discs and smoke off the pads...

Thank you Mark, your opinion mirrors mine but I was begining to doubt myself, the 20 something Volvo technician(I was always a mechanic)looked at me as if I was not just an old fool ,but an alian to boot, when I told him he was talking through his a**s.
