Right, this is a really, really trivial question but hey... the board is quiet today

Why is it that when you see Porche Carerra's and other similar cars with impressive brake setups, the discs are always shiny like crome or stainless steel? Is that because they are always new cars or is it to do with the material the disc is made out of, or do these people take the wheels off and polish the discs too?

I notice my nice new disks have a nice patina of rust on them already (except where the pads contact, of course) and I started wondering why this should be.
