Well those nice people at Elkparts sent me some new balance shaft chain guides at short notice ready for the weekend - so I packed the family off to the in-laws and spent this afternoon putting things back. New head gasket and chains etc.

The car has FSH @ 115k miles. The old balance shaft chain guides are really worn. Up to 3mm wear on the tensioning guide
With new guides and the old chain the tensioner is back to almost fully retracted - previously it was almost towards the end of its adjustment. I'll be doing my other 9000 soon.

Oh yeah, I got it all back and then remember I'd not tightened the idler sprocket - loblocks! So had to get that damm crank pully bolt off again and re-torqued which is a PITA on an auto
