Hey there people.

Could somebody tell me the proper routine for checking the level of my transmission?
I remember reading somwhere that it should be put in a sequence of Park, Drive and reverse followed by doing a dance round the car before a reading can be taken.
Can someone clear this up for me please?

Thanks,

Billy.

The procedure is this (as far as I remember).

Get car upto normal operating temperature
Park on a level surface.
Put the car into Drive and then into Reverse and then into Park
Checke the oil level using the appropriate scale on the dipstick.
Top Up oil
Do the gear thing again
Check oil again.

Just dont over fill the box.

Don't forget that the whole procedure must be done with the engine running.
If you check the level while switched off, you'll think it's overfull, start the engine and the fluid levels disappear.

Note that when you do the 'put it through the gears' routine you should hold it in each of the gears for 15 seconds, 'According to Haynes'.
As you put it into P last I assume that you leave it there while dipping, although Haynes doesn't say you do or don't.
