Audio "Specialist" says . . .

I must admit I am getting quite interested in improving the quality of the sound in my 58 plate 9-3 Aero (7 speaker set up with amp in the boot).
I contacted one of the many car audio "specialists" in the Preston area and was told..
"If you remove the head unit to replace with something none standard the car wont start" !!
Is this correct?
If that's the case then how did you guys who HAVE replaced the standard head unit do a work around?

He suggested an under seat amp which I have to say I have given serious thought to...

was he a specialist or just "special"?
Hi Kev..
Found him on a google search...
Must admit its put me off changing the head unit!
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
The car won't start ? I think as kev says he's special , or a specialist in being special . Or just a Jarhead !
I think he needs to come up with a reason why it won't start .
I know on the non facelift dashboard models you would have problems with warning chimes and indicators not sounding if you removed the head unit .
But on facelift dashboard you can remove and replace .
Just ask C2kev he's done it .
Not unless the said specialist had a bad experience with one ?
Prolly a good idear to start replacing the shelf speakers .
I was amazed that the shelf speaker grills are huge , and all I found when I looked from the boot was 2 shirt buttons pretending to be speakers , but there's cutouts for larger items
Thanks Mr Lizzard..
I am giving serious thought to some decent 6 x 9's as a starting point..
Did you use the wiring from the "shirt buttons" ??
Did you use the wiring from the "shirt buttons" ??
I did, I didn't see the point in changing the wire if it is still powered from the same amp

Thanks Kev....

Can you believe I just phoned up another audio dealer in Blackpool who sells the item in the link above and he said "ooh I wouldn't recommend them"..
I cant believe the spirit of adventure I am getting !!
I've heard of some absolute crap in my time, but removing the head unit the car won't start? Just about as stupid a comment as you'll ever likely to hear.

I got my Saab HU replaced with a Kenwood DDX4016BT and it is a great bit of kit. I have the Bose 9 speaker system with built in amp and the sound quality is superb. It was professionally installed by Car Audio Centre. They did a great job and saved me a whole load of mucking about. It was the first Cadillac BLS they had worked on at the centre I used, but as everything was pretty much standard Saab, there wasn't any problem.
I've just had a thaught ( and it hurt )
Maybe the specialist, did a Fopar once on a 9-3 , and left the ignition key , then disconnected the battery , then replaced the head unit then reconnected the Battery cos that can cause the whole car to go completely wrong .
I always thaught those parrot asteroid head units were good ,
I know on that well known auction site, there's a UK seller selling head units for the face lift 9-3 .
Which also includes the mounting cradle facia , and the patch lead for the sterring wheel controls , all in with all the latest gizmos for £180.00 p through how good they are I don't know .
But I know that just to by the cradle , patch lead and facia costs £75.00 from dynamic sounds .
MY03-06,car wasn't designed to fit aftermarket radio(MoST fibre optic system),it's not just the audio that runs through the MoST system..MY07 onwards Headunit can be changed for A/M unit plenty have done it..

I replaced the head unit on my 58 plate for an AppRadio and it works perfectly. Sounds far better even through the standard speakers. The only thing that doesn't work is the service indicator.
