Hi,

Just finished a bit of work on the 96 9k LPT, and found the poer steering fluid at the min level.

Haynes says "use saab or GM power steering fluid", contacted dealer who advised ATF (auto trans fluid?), but checked with local motor factors who looked at the fluid and noted it was green & therefore likely to be LHM fluid as ATF is red.

Saab dealer since say that about 96 there was a changeover, but can't confirm if it is LHM, just that it is Saaab green power steering fluid. Thought it was a bit steep at £16 per litre, so will use generic fluid where possible.

Anybody shed any light on whether generic LHM fluid can be used?

TIA,

Pete

read the previous threads, and get the drift - could argue to use ATF, but may (or maynot) cause seal degradation - so is £10 difference worth the gamble??? methinks not, ah well time to waste 1hr trip to dealer and back.

Thanks,

Pete

Pete,

Try eurocarparts for the fluid, a few quid cheaper than directly from saab - £12 before vat.

Surprisingly it wasn't in the power steering fluid section in lubricants and cooling, but in power steering rack section.

Hope this is not too late
