My '54 (Jan 05) Vector's alarm has gone off - with flashing lights - about 5 times in the past year, always during the night when it's pouring down and also a bit windy (mildly squally?).

Having read this post before, I don't think it'll be the battery failing yet, and the flashing lights also discount the battery issue. It did it again last night, so I thought I'd ask if anyone has any thoughts or comments?

Hi CitTone, that's a good question well put. I dunno. My Xantia was well behaved in the alarm department. Unlike its spheres (VSX). You've changed your picture?

I thought it might be an oversensitive volumetric thing, but it wasn't actually windy enough to really rock the car around. Anyone got any other experience of oversensitivity?

It'll be the glass-break sensor I'd have thought. Saab alarms commonly go off in heavy rain / hail for that reason.

likely to be the tilt sensor.[/b]

Thanks Neil - don't want to give cash to main dealer until it's really necessary, but I'll make a note to mention when serviced. Only gone off 3 or 4 times in two years, so not a major nuisance - yet.
Ned - not heard of that on the 9-5 before - any more info?

Well, not much more to add really. The car has a glass breakage sensor and the sound of heavy rain / hail seems to be similar enough to set it off. I was at my dealer once when a short hailstorm set about thirty cars off...

Are all these alarm siren units screwed together or are some sealed/glued/molded? If the latter is there a rule of thumb for how old the car has to be to have one or the other?[/b]
My 2002 Aero has a siren that is sealed/glued, so it was earlier than 2002 that they decided to save pennies on 6 screws!I have not quite got round to doing mine yet but I will have to cut mine open and seal it closed. The screw positions still exist, so drilling these out and inserting new screws should hold it together while silicon / sealant is filled around the cut.

I removed my siren at the weekend; all went apart from the wiring connector. It had a sliding lock (coloured red) that needs releasing and sliding out before the plug could be disconnected. Therefore the easiest way to remove the unit was to unscrew the two nuts, withdraw the siren from behind the wheel arch and then release the plug. This might be widely known, but it was new to me so thought I'd share!

I've been reading through this thread - it looks like I'm not alone then with having an alarm problem!

It seemed to start happening after I didn't use the car for a while. Now, if I don't use the car then the alarm behaves itself. However, if I use the car then the alarm goes off later that evening/night (once it went off very shortly after I left the car). I tried eliminating the tilt & glass break sensors aspect, but the alarm still went off. Now it's off to my local independent Saab specialist next. Interesting points on this thread to consider.

Other than this I still LOVE the car - superb!

So who here has the oldest car which hasn't yet had the age-related alarm problem? I shall no doubt hex myself by saying that my Dec 1998-reg/d car is still behaving in this regard.[/b]
My 9-5 is from november 1997. Except for one SID message Service theft alarm, I didn't had any problems, nevertheless I performed the mod suggested by SuperSwede66.
I work for the Dutch Raymarine distributor, a UK brand for boating electronics, so we have quite a few tec wizards.
At least one of the capacitors was about to pop he said. (could smell an acid kind of smell when heating it up a bit with his solderingiron)
The original batteries (datecode 97-09)still measured 3.15V.
I now use Panasonic PhotoPower Cr123, they've got 1400mAh capacity, which is more than enough to power the alarm.
It's an easy modification, fun to do also :)

i seem tobe having similar problem
i have 9-5 aero estate 2001
