Hi

Now its hot out there I've just realised that the acc is not blowing as cold as it used to and not quite cold enough for my liking. Whilst it is cooling a bit (i.e cooler than when using on econ) I'm sure something isn't quite right. I have had the car about 2 years now and guess it maybe time to re gas. Does this seem likely please and how often should this need doing

Thanks

Julian

Hi Julian

I beleive all systems whether Saab, Mercedes, Honda etc leak a little somewhere and need a top up of gas every couple of years. In fact I think the recommendation with Saab is every 12 months.

It's worth shopping around though, my last top up cost me £45, and then I spoke to a refrigeration engineer who said he does it for £15!!

Not really. In my ownership of a 9000CS since 1995 in Hong Kong where the temp. exceeds 30C for 6 months of a year, any leak of refrigerant will be very, very noticeable.

Yet I only need to refill the stuff twice in these 8 years, and that's because something broke: the receiver and the metal hoses running to/from the compressor. Otherwise the system is air tight and won't leak.

Hi JD,

Some systems leak a little, some a lot, some not at all.
If it's cool but not as cool as you'd like it a top up will be in order and could probably last a summers use or more. Just one question, how old is the car? If its got the old R12 refrigerent then it's now not availible (CFC's and all that) as far as I know. The later cars have a system filled with R123 (I think). My local specialist does conversions as it's not as simple as just filling up with the newer gas.
By the way leaks can be found by introducing a dye into the system to show up where the gas is coming out from.
HTH.
Nick.
