I own an L reg CSE, we have had it about 6 months now having bought it from a local specialist. The car has covered 170k and runs like new, however there is quite a strong acrid smell coming from the nearside air vent when the ACC comes on. The garage can find nothing wrong. Has anybody experienced anything similar or can suggest what could be causing it?

Sounds to me as if your battery is being overcharged. Gone are the days when the diode and regulator on the back of the alternator could be changed in an instance!

Don't know if it is relevant but my 9000CSE had an unpleasnat smell coming from the Air vent (Burning Antifreeze smell) & it turned out to be the heater matrix weeping (not enough to show any water loss) since it was changed the smell has gone.

The heater matrix problem manifests itself with a smell not dissimilar to "last nights left over curry"!
The elderly Saab 9000 Courtesy cars from a local dealer suffered from this in the mornings but they appear to have fixed this by giving you a fiat or vauxhall or something equally small and rubbish.
