Hi all

I went to have my ACC re-gasses (or checked) as it was not blowing cold air. The AC guy had a look and said that the system was totally empty hence why my compressor pulley was not spinning. He did a vacume test on it and it would not hold a vacume. After investigation, the condensor has a hole in it.!!

they have quoted the following to fix. £475 +vat, that includes parts (condensor and dryer) gassing with dye and labour.

What do you all think, is that good? German and Swedish do the condensor for £130.

Thanks
Anthony

Well i cant specifically comment on the fitment of a condensor to a 9000 but i fitted a new one to my C900 T16 and its not difficult - obviously it is a bumper off affair - make sure you use new seals on the pipes going into the condensor (from memory the new condensor comes with these) - the pipes themselves can be tight to undo so gve them a good soaking beforehand.
Another point of interest i can get a full charge and gas done for £55 so if you add that to the cost of the condensor its comfortably under £200.
It all depends on whether you mind getting your hands dirty - an afternoons work in my estimation.......

Ant,

Be aware that this may not be the end of it.

I got a hole in my condensor and ended up with a £950 bill.

The joints are prone to siezing and tearing the pipes when trying to dismantle.

For mine, the only original part is now the rad part in the bulk head and the compressor, eveything else ended up being changed as the Alloy pipes and unions all tore up....

Thanks Guys...

Its actually not the origional condensor on there, the guy said that it has been replaced before as the pipes that run down the wing look new, and so does the condensor aparently. THe guy reckons it has been changed not so long ago so hopefully I wont get too much problem with the nuts.

Well I think I will go for it. He is an independent saab specialist so I guess (hope) he knows what he is doing..

Thanks guys for the pointers..

True Andrew,
The only original part of my A/C is the compressor and the actual evaporator itself,
everything else is new.
Still whichever way you look at it there will still be a considerable saving on labour by a bit of d.i.y - your correct in that the unions can be troublesome but a good soaking with something like plus gas should help matters.
Still think £500+ for changing a condensor is a bit on the steep side - imagine what the bill would be if they ran into problems
