ABS light comes on when driving, brake pedal not being pressed at the time. Light goes off when ignition switched off/on. Warning then disappears for 50-60 miles. Car is 9000 CSE 2.3T P-reg..Any ideas?
more than likly abs sensor has gone open circuit, tech2 will tell you which of the four sensors has failed, or you could check the resistance of each sensor with a multimeter, sensors are approx £100 each from saab
tech 2 is the electroic code reader which is used to interigate ecu for fault codes your car being 97 will have the facility of any fault codes (including intermitent ones) being stored in the ecu, so they can be accessed by the tech2 it takes out quite a lot of leg work to find faults, the down side only Saab dealers and a few specialists have this kit.
Zeppelin is correct in suspecting suspension and steering parts, as any increase in the air gap between sensor and ring caused by worn parts moving will put on warning light.
My ABS warning light came on on my Aero about 2 weeks ago. Would periodically go off but come back on again. Took car into my dealer for plugging in to the box of tricks, and the fault code indicated the pump operating all the time. Car was booked in for further investigation and it turned out to be several corroded connections between the ecu and plug-in diagnostic thingy..!! The dealer went through all the ABS system connections and cleaned up.
So, check your connections......!
