There is a 98 R reg blue 2.3T anniversary advertised at www.sportiva.co.uk with 225 bhp.

It is manual transmission and they say that a rare number of late anniversary models were fitted with the aero engine rather than the standard 200bhp engine.

is this correct and do you know how many were produced?

I believe that this is correct. 98MY cars did come with this engine. Rare is the word

Hands off as i was thinking of getting this "for the wife" although strangely, it may be insured for both of us to drive........

It certainly can be correct - I have one

Apparently the last ones made (MY98) had the HOT Aero engine. They can be verified via the VIN number, although the exact details of how to do that escapes me now. the engine code is B234R.

Do a search for "B234" and "VIN", and you should get the correct forum threads to see how it's done if you're interested in the car.

It's true - after they discontinued the Aero model, the full turbos got the Aero spec "R" engine - the clue is the 8th digit of the VIN number.
