Hi all,

I've just laid my deposit down on a 93' Aero in immaculate condition. Unfortunately it's missing the last 50K of history and it's at 120K. The car appears to have been well looked after and with only 3 owners I'm hoping to track down some of it's history too. Can't complain for £2200 with 12 months ticket.

Before I commit to the rest of the money I have a big query with it. Did every 93 Aero have TCS? THe various sources say yes but this almost certainly appears not to have it. No lights for it on the dash and it definitely not in limp home mode.

Can anyone advise please?

Thanks
Lee

Welcome to Saabscene, Lee

Pretty sure all '93 Aeros had TCS, assuming it's manual (not so sure about Autos). On a TCS-equipped 9000, the brake hydraulic reservoir is huge and has a label marked "TCS" on it. Thought I had a photo to hand, but haven't.

Actually, I've stolen one of Scaero's '93 Aero

Ignore the strut brace (which is what the photo was taken for) and look at the throttle body (the bit that the big rubber elbow fits onto and with the black plastic bit on top with the blue (normally black) pipe coming out of it. If your throttle body looks like that, you've got TCS.

The brake reservoir is largely hidden under the strut brace in this case.

Probably won't get a chance to see it now as it's off for a couple of bits to pass the MOT. I don't recall seeing that unit on the throttle body but wasn't entirely sure what was what at the time. Will try and get a look or ask the garage to check it for me. Would rather lose £150 than the whole lot.

If I don't have TCS I take it this makes the car a particularly rare beast?

Thanks

if no tcs ..yes its rare
and yes you are lucky !!
the tcs can be expensive and troublesome
If you are not sure if you have it or not
just give it some when the road is greasy/wet
if it has tcs you will feel it and see the tcs light flashing away
if not... you will just spin your wheels !!!

welcome to the board btw !!

My '93 manual aero has no TCS. I was originally assuming this as there was no tcs on the fluid resovoir and no light on the dash', but now I'm sure as it donna have the bit on top of the throttle body shown in Bill's photo....it also explains the 'fun' I had with the car in second gear when I first got it (well...the most powerful car I had before this was only 90bhp )

Well it looks good for me then. First and second lit the tires up at one point. No Limp Home mode seems to be active either.

I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me when I get the car though.

Thanks

Another 9000 Aero owner in Lincoln!!!
Let me know when you get it or if you have any problems, would be good to compare notes!

Where did you get the car from? Anywhere local?

If you need a good specialist, take it to Dave Onyon at Feathers Garage at Thorpe on the Hill.Recently rebuilt my gearbox and did a good job!!

Ant,

I'm getting it from Fisher Car Sales up on Greetwell Road. It's Imola Red and is in almost new condition, needing the front lower spoiler re-spraying and some bushes in the dog bone mounting.

Funny you should mention Dave Onyon as he wanted me to bring it down to him to check for the TCS.

Well it's ready to pick up as I type but I can't get it till Monday as my Insurance company are terrible at providing paperwork, although very good at giving a cheap quote. I'm paying £500 FC at 27.

I'll keep my eye open for you on the roads. I work at Waddington, you anywhere nearby Ant?

Hi Lee

I live in St Catherines in Lincoln, not far from south park roundabout.

My car is black with a mesh grille and a set of 95 "aero" letters set into the grille.
Tend to get out round Waddington a bit to give the car a work out on the road from Harmston down to Brant Road.
Got a saabscene sticker on the back window.

Give me a shout if you have any problems..had mine 2 years now and know a little bit about it.

Cheers
Ant
