Hi Richard. Does the whine in all gears happen under load and on the overrun? My C900T16S box only does it under load, all quiet on the overrun. Never had problems before with gearboxes so I'd be please to hear from anyone with any ideas - pinion bearings?
my 99T used to whine when tranmission was under load - quiet on overrun IIRC. It did this for six months until it gave up. In the end garage was talking about pinion bearings but they replaced the entire gearbox, so I think it was more serious than just bearings. It was fine after replacement.
There's always a lot of discussion on boxes. I wonder what box will retrofit what car in the 9000 range and if there is any advantage in doing so for the higher/lower gearing etc!. Would be interesting to know what Abbotts/Hirsch etc! think about this.
My 9000 manual AERO has started whining under load, its done 170,000 miles. I spoke to a specialist about it and basically got the impression that I am going to be much poorer when it finally goes as its a gearbox out and strip to fix it. The tricks seems to be that if they get much noisier much quicker then seek help. On the bright side apparently they can whine for years and still give good service. There was no magic oil aditive that would delay things .
