Dear all,
I have a 94' 9000 Aero with 168000 miles and had some questions for you.
1. If you floor it in 3rd down a hill (and sometimes on the flat) the revs get to about 4800rpm then the engine cuts out for 1 or 2 seconds. This is very frightening. Is there something that can be adjusted or as i suspect, would using super-unleaded stop this.
2. Is it worth using super-unleaded, will there be damage if I don't.
3. How long will cam chains last, I don't want to buy a new engine but getting the chain done is not cheap either.
4. I live near Coventry, can anyone recommend a 'SAAB specialist' garage within about 50 miles.
Cheers

A mate of mine took his car to the garage and said to the mechanic "every time I look in the rear view mirror, I see clouds of smoke. What can I do?" The mechanic told him there was an easy solution to this problem and he removed the rear view mirror!

1. Don't floor it in third down a hill? Why are you accelerating down hills?
2. Each increase in RON value will give 2% or so better performance - I don't think the petrol will cause the engine to cut out like this. I may be proved wrong?
3. When were they last changed? Have they been changed? Can someone tell us when they should be changed?
4. I don't know about the coventry area - take a look at www.saab-900.com for their links to specialists. Yeah, I know it is a 900 site - but it is still useful in this respect.

I have been told Highgate Saab are good, however he does tend to take on too much so you have to wait to get your car back.I have not had first hand experience other than to purchase spares, Phone no:01922 622 695
Highgate is about 2 miles out of B'ham city centre

Try Trent Saab, they should be just within that distance.

Or give Abbott Racing a call.

Using ordinary unleaded won't damage the engine as the APC knocks off the timing a tad, it just won't give optimum performance thats all. Sounds more like a fuel starvation thing though, but could be almost anything!!!

Thanks for the suggestions.
I doubt its water in the fuel tank because it runs completely fine for weeks on end otherwise.
The reason I would like to know what the problem is, is that every time you go engage warp drive, you always wonder if the engine is just about to die, probably just at the worst moment.
I've used injector cleaner in the past and wouldn't be in a rush to do so again because it seems to cure one problem and cause another.
I'm buying a 9000 CSE for the wife tonight so I will see if that does it.

If this problem only happens when you 'engage warp drive' I'd suspect that it's over boosting and the overboost protection is operating. What does the turbo gauge show when it happens? Find a quiet stretch of road, preferably slightly uphill, floor the throttle and see what happens to the gauge. It should only really boost just into the red. If it goes higher than that, there's a good chance that the 'fault' is only the cut-out protecting your engine.
