I managed to cook my engine as result of low water a few weeks back. cause was weeping head gasket which the finally blew.

head skimmed etc when independent saab specialists fixed it. But engine has uneven high speed tickover and garage reports emissions too high for MOT purposes. DI checked and OK.

Suggestion is that cooking caused damage to bores or rings or that carbon was baked ionto soemthing. Redex in bores overnight has not changed anything.

Car goes well and no obvious problems except fuel consumption is down a bit.

Anyone got any ideas?

i've had high and uneven tick over caused by cracks in the various breather pipes that attach to the inlet manifold and crankcase. They go brittle in time so may be worth checking if they've been discon/recon recently. Also check the little 1 way valve (white, plastic & circular) to the rear of the cam cover with small black pipe either side. I had one of these fail recently and caused same sort of problem
