After a week or so at looking at vrious performance tuners I have decided on using Euro Chips for my conversion.

I am only looking for a small increase in power, apprx 40bhp to 210bhp and for this I am paying £375.00 inc

Has anyone else used them and comments would be appreciated.

Probably best value has to maptun, with an increase of 65bhp to 235bhp for £639.00 however this was a little more than I am looking for !

Does an induction kit make any difference ?

My ECU upgrade (also +40bhp to 210hp) was from Abbott, for £400 inc. Personally, I think the extra £25 would be worth paying, given Abbott have a long history of doing these upgrades.

I've had no problems at all with the upgrade.

Andy,
For the sake of saving, literally a few quid, do you really want to end up with a potentially expensive problem?
I'm not aware of Euro Chips having extensive Trionic knowledge, so going to somewhere outside the known Saab specialist tuners is taking a risk, as one of two posters on this board can testify.
At your own peril, I say.....

You're a braver man than I am, then.

Like Aeropilot says, you'd be best advised to stick to a tuner that knows trionic and most importantly works with trionic and uses an APC solenoid as part of the upgrade from an LPT.

Certainly having spoken to Eurochips, they appear to know their SAABS, an APC valve is being fitted.

They are part of the Essex Turbochargers group, which developed the original Esprit Turbo way back, so hopefully they know their way around a turbo charged engine, and the power increasing I am seeking isnt that great either !

I will post after

Is the upgrade really noticeable afterwards ? as I would say the LPT engine strikes me as a bit soft, the gearing also seems really tall. I read somewhere that the 2.3FPT car hit 60 in 7.2, so one would assume with the lpt with 210bhp should at least match that time ?, its more the in gear times that I am interestde in, and am hoping for a lot more oommph for overtaking !

Cheers for replies

I can only say that I am happy with the Speedparts upgrade on my GM900 FPT taking me to around the 230ish bhp mark - I also have a JT 3" front pipe which you may wish to consider as well due to the extra heat emitted in the exhaust gases - cost me around £336 for the ECU I think, as I already had the JR filter. Can drive the car on the normal shopping trip and have fun as well when going solo.
You will see a definite improvement in overtaking capacity.

I am looking forward to a few more fireworks from under the bonnet.

What the power delivery like in a modified LPT ? is it a slow gradual increase or a big bang and it all arrives at once ?

I used to own a modified Starion with apprx 220bhp and that had massive turbo lag, but, boy when the power arrived it was mighty amusing !, at 80mph in 5th it went like a scolded cat with a heavy right foot, which I am hoping the SAAB might be able to replicate !

If they know their way that well around Saabs, then why arn't everybody else using them..?

It's not knowing your way around a turbocharged engine that's the issue, it's knowing about Saab's Trionic control system that's the issue. (Unless of course the've employed ex-Abbott Racing staff.....??)

But, if it works for you then that's what counts, I just hope your engine survives

Best of luck

The Speedparts power I feel/think is continuous and progressive, whereas I have heard that others come in with a bang - I believe Abbott upgrade is like this but others may correct me.

i had the Abbott ECU,Dumpvalve and Exhaust downpipe upgrade on my 9000 2.3lpt.

Throttle response was fantastic, the Abbott chip brings a huge increase in low down torque. After the upgrade was done i do not think that you needed to use more than 3500 revs to overtake virtually anything

Good improvement in MPG as well- being far more efficient.

I would not say that going to a less experienced Saab tuner is going to save you money in the long run....
Big Thumbs up for the Abbott upgrade from me
Worth every penny.
