Hi all,

I was "happily" driving into work this morning along the motorway smooth as can be and had to slow for traffic ahead. From that point until I arrived at work the steering wheel wobbled/shook on acceleration. If not accelerating it's back to smooth.

It seemed to come from driver's side as there was a bit of noise on turning left once I pulled into car park. If anything, it felt like loose wheel nuts. I checked and all were tight (gave them a nip for luck).

I attempted to take the car to a local garage a while ago, but when I got back in to drive it all symptoms had gone!

I'm leaning towards a worn inner or outer CV joint, but any advice would be most welcome.

I'd be tempted to go for the least expensive option first and that would of course be to have the balancing checked on that wheel. You might have had a weight (if stick on) come off.

It would also help to know how many miles you've got on the car as that might give an indication of whether any other components might be reaching the 'well worn' stage. By this I mean, don't for instance expect a car with well over 100k miles on it, to have much life left in the front struts or the drop links to be in any reasonable sort of condition.

Weird thing is the symptoms were gone completely on the drive home (20 miles on motorway). This morning the only hint of it was a clack clack noise when I came off the motorway (driving in a straight line though!)

It's done 113k miles and already been through two drivers side front springs in the two years before I bought it
