Hi, I have 2006 1.9 150tid estate too and same thing, very rarely goes above 1/4. Nothing obvious is affected by it so going to leave it, cba to change the thermostat when she runs fine, climate control works fine etc.

Be interesting to know whether it was your thermostat. You know on our model it must be the entire thermostat housing replaced and the cheap alternatives are often more problems than they're worth!

I replaced this particular thermostat for my friend on his 55 plate vector.

The steps if I remember were:

First disconnect and remove the battery from its housing.
Then remove the battery housing which is held down by three screws.
The battery housing will have three individual wires connected to it that you’ll need to unclip.
Next if you remove the turbo intercooler hose which is on the left of the battery.
Now you’ll have clear access to the water thermostat.
It is held by 2 screws and has a few pipes connected as well as screwed into the housing.
If you disconnect these pipes then you’ll be able to replace your thermostat.

Not too bothered by either of those, I average 42mpg daily which is plenty for me. Emissions don't bother me, it'll just be the MOT that it could affect, got a little while yet.

Had it half way for some time today, outside temp around 12/13c which obviously helped.

Hi again...Just to add since replacing thermostat, car runs smoother, the lumpy tickover has gone, obviously with the thermostat not working properly,ECU was confused and sending wrong signals out, thinking the engine wasn't up to working temperature......rgds Steve
