9-3 2008 sat nav 7 speaker, want to add either 6x9 or sub as it lacks bass

Right I have a 9-3 2008 Sat Nav Aero and have the poor 7 speaker system which lacks bass, I have just two 4 inch on the parcel shelf and would like to add 6x9's or a single sub to give the bass feel.
I had a 56 reg 9-3 vector before and it had the full bose set up ( rear had 4", 6x9's and sub in the shelf) and from moving from that to this is very disappointing especially as the older saab was 2 years older and only Vector trim not Aero that I have now....

Any inputs would be great
Do I do away with the 4 inch and connect straight to 6x9's or run an amp and sub off the boot amp that's already there....
I am new to this audio stuff but have some experience with car electrics....

Cheers in advance

All I did was put a set of 6x9" that I got with another old 9-3 and wired both in . maybe not the proper way to go but it suited me .as you can tell I'm no good with modern car electronics . but HAY HO

Sounded better than the 4" or did you have them aswell as 6x9 wired
Got them all wired up together, those 4" are really just 2 paper plates from the Pound shop .
It sounds better
