My 9-5 is now at about 62k, so will be booking in fairly doon. I've heard bad things about Western, and good things about Sabco in Bishopton. Has anyone had the 66k service? - if so, can you let me know what sort of prices to expect?

Hi I used to have a 900 SE Turbo that I got from Western Lexus dealer outside Edinburgh, they were not the best. The car had a few problems and I was driving down from Aberdeen in the evenings to drop the car off and pick up a courtesy car. On the 2nd trip the courtesy car was a tip, it had not been cleaned and was about ten years old (It was not a lexus or a Saab). Anyway I got the courtesy car left the dealer and about 5 miles later the car just started pouring smoke into the cabin with an increase in temperature ! As soon as I had picked the car up the dealer closed for the night. So my wife and I bailed out and turned the car off. I used a few choice words about the car. Then we phoned the helpline to find out that the car was not covered. So we drove it back to the dealer, just opposite them was the Western Mercedes Benz commercial dealers who were open 24 hrs., they were excellent, one of them even phoned up the manager and told them it was a disgrace the state and condition of the car.
Anyway several hours later they had arranged another car and we got back to Aberdeen about 2am in the morning. They did not want to allow me to use the Saab dealership in Aberdeen as they would have had to pay for it I guess.
Actually the Saab delaership in Aberdeen is not the best either.

Sorry for ranting but I would not trust Western after this.

what bad experiences have you had from the saab dealer in aberdeen, i take it it is Adrian Smith, because my car is due a service soon and i was thinking about putting it into my local country garage who deal with any make of car rather than the main dealer who will probably overcharge me anyway.

A Smith rates up there with Specialist Cars on being a bad experience in my opinion.
They did not want to supply new springs so that someone else could fit them to my old 900. Not wanting to get involved in a discussion with Saab UK about what should have been fitted to my 9-5 in the first place. Very poor telephone manners.
I went in before I got my 9-5 (From the North of England) to have a look to see what they had, was looking at a new 93 convertible (Before knew child number 1 was on the way). Sales man did not bother getting off his chair to talk to me even though he was not doing anything else, after about 10 minutes when he could be bothered he spoke to me like it was a great inconvinenece and I was something he had found on the bottom of his shoe. So was pleased to be able to get my 9-5 from somewhere else.
I told them about a problem with my 9-5, explained very clearly that there was a problem with the electric motor for the rear screen wiper, took it in for a day, having booked it a week before for this and another list of faults, when I picked it up nothing had been done, they had not bothered preordering any spare parts even though they had been informed that they were required. Told me that I needed a new rear wiper, I got home lifted the wiper away from the screen and operated the wiper motor, noise still there so obviously not the rubber. To me this was an obvious test to do but they had not done it. They just wanted to replace the wiper. Easier I would imagine
My 9-5 is waiting for spares to be delivered so I will have to take it in when I get back onshore. If there was a choice that was closer than Inverness or Perth I would use them instead of A Smith.

There is supposed to be a guy called
James Nicol Saab Parts at Insch, do not know anything about him but he may do work on Saabs ? If you need any more info get back to me.

Interesting to hear your comments about Adrian Smith Saab in Aberdeen. I have been a customer there for 12 years (two new 9000's and a new 9-5 from them) and I'm afraid my experience of them this week is probably the final straw. It's still being sorted with them so I won't post the details yet. Unfortunately the whole front desk side has gone downhill since Ian Carty left a few years ago. He was really good news but the guy who usually fronts up now is surly and uncommunicative.

Rant On/ Why on earth can they not put a bell on the desk so you don't have to stand around like a lemon until someone deigns to come out of the office. /Rant Off

Out of interest did you get your car serviced? The reason I ask is that they have told me that they charge a flat fee for all services no matter what mileage you are at. I'm now maybe 1-2 months away from my 66k service and they are quoting around £160 - before non serviceable items!!! They seem to know their stuff and be an honest bunch but I'm still unsure. I plan to book in but request some specific jobs - only I'm not sure of the biggies for this service - i.e. pulleys? etc Can anyone advise?

Sorry to see Im not the only one - A Smith in Abz are simply useless. Have sadly sold my Viggen this year after 5 years of owning- in no small part due to the fact that the dealer here in Aberdeen is frankly shocking.......there hasnt been a single service where I havent had cause to complain either about the work, the service or even the condition the car was left in. I dont sit on my leather in oily jeans, so I definitely dont expect them to.
Have always kept my cars main dealer & FSH, but worst experience ever with that crowd-theyre just clowns, plain & simple- and they charge top whack for a bottom of the barrel service.
Rant off.....sorry......
