Hi folks,
It's that time of year again. This year I'm proposing that we revisit Oban to see if we can find out what it is like when it isn't raining.

As per last year I propose to meet at Strathclyde Park on Saturday morning, have lunch at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar and on to Oban. Saturday evening we'll have a meal and a drink or two in Oban.

Sunday could either be spent doing the touristy bit in Oban and its environs or going for a drive further into the highlands for some sightseeing.

For Sunday night we have a choice of staying in Oban or moving on somewhere else. On Monday we say our goodbyes and head home.

Could you let me know your thoughts on the various options by 10th July and I'll start to pull it together.

I would love to but my stag do is on the Saturday.

Hangover permitting, I could maybe meet up with you in the highlands somewhere on the Sunday? I know quite a few of the good roads around Skye/Fortwilliam etc..

Hi folks,

If you haven't booked accomodation yet, better get your finger out. I know Steve9000 was struggling to find beds in the past few days. You can look here for suggestions: www.oban.org.uk www.theaa.com http://www.know-britain.com/hotels_guest_h...tland/oban.html

On Sunday, I thought that some people might like to visit Oban Distillery or, for the more adventurous, how about this: http://www.seafari.co.uk/Easdale_Times.html

Steve, I phoned around and this is the only company running trips on the Sunday. You'll have to make a decision as to the suitability of the boats for your kids.

TFatC, sorry the boat trip is probably a bit of a postmans holiday for you.

Hi all,

We have sorted out our accommodation. We are in a B&B family room with a sea view and even a playstation in the room!

After looking into information about Oban and the surrounding area we have decided to travel up on the Thursday.

Loch Ness on the Friday, so hopefully we will meet up with everybody on the Saturday in Oban.

Gordy - Thanks for the information
regarding the boat trip site - we have booked for Sunday morning at 10.30 am. Apparently they spotted basking sharks and porpoise yesterday.

Steve.

I think that it's a bright red Vauxhall Calibra with a flat tyre - do I get a prize?

Hi folks,

I've checked with the Loch Fyne Oyster bar, they can only accomodate a large group at 12 o'clock. I think that might be a bit early for us, unless we meet earlier in the morning. As an alternative, there is this place http://www.widemouthedfrog.com/ which is located a couple of miles north of Oban (it's also where my room is). We could go here for lunch or evening meal. What are people's thoughts? Anybody any other suggestions?

Steve,

Once we decide where we're going to have lunch on Saturday, we can work out where we'll meet.

It's my intention to join you on the boat on Sunday morning.

Note: The boat is based approx 45 mins from Oban and they like folks to turn up about 15 mins before sailing so that they can kit them out with waterproofs etc.So factor that into your plans

Good try Gordy but no cigar. It got me thinking though for a bit of fun, the one who can guess what we have bought should get a prize (a bottle of wine say) given in Oban to the lucky person. As a clue it's a Saab.

Sorry to hear that Colin. You'll both be miseed. I do envy you a trip to Poland though, will you have time to sight-see?

For everyone else, the meet is at 10am tomorrow morning in Strathclyde Park at the Water Sport Centre. That's just off J6 of the M74, head for Motherwell, at the first lights turn left into Strathclyde Park and first left again to the Water Sports centre. There is a coffee shop there and toilets etc.

We'll be leaving there at 10.30(ish) and heading North via the M8, Erskine Bridge (toll so bring some change), Loch Lomond, then over past Inverary and to Oban.

At the moment I haven't planned lunch, I'll see what folks want to do tomorrow morning.

In the evening I've booked a table at the Wide Mouthed Frog which is just North of Oban. Table is booked for 7.30. http://www.widemouthedfrog.com/index.htm

On Sunday, everybody is free to do what they want, I've booked myself onto a seafari cruise at 10.30am (if you're going to do this bring plenty of warm clothes, a hat, and gloves). www.seafari.co.uk Once again, nothing is booked mealwise, I'll arrange with you all what you want to do on Saturday.

We'll return late on Monday morning through Glencoe, across Rannoch Moor and down Loch Lomondside
