Good Evening

Someone beat me to the Anni so I will never know but thanks for all the info!! I found a 1995 Aero auto with the B234L (200BHP) engine. Will the performance be the same as my CSE FPT or are there other benefits to the Aero engine? I'm hoping the handling will be a vast improvement. Should I hold out for a manual/B234R version? Or is there very little in it? Would an auto version cope if more power is coaxed from it?!! Are the brakes uprated on the Aero as they were a little lacking on my CSE.

thanks

The engine is identical to the standard FPT auto.

Unlikely, the Aero suspension in standard form is pretty pants IMHO. My dad's CSE V6 handled better than my old Aero

It's not extra power so much the problem but the extra torque, the ZF auto's service torque limit is only 300Nm so if you want an Aero to modify for more power/torque then a manual version is a must.

Brakes on the Aero are the same as any other 9k......

Thanks for your reply. How disappointing. So everyone who raves about them must only be talking about a manual/modded version? Looks like I'll have to wait for a manual or go for that 850R after all! Did I say that out loud!!!!

Nothing wrong with a stage 1 (ish, mine's got an Abbott ECU) auto It's not a Ylee-monster, but still . It depends what you're after.

(I've also got an increasing string of other mods. Even with an auto it's an addictive habit...)

If you go tuning through a company like Maptun, then when you tell them it is an auto, they have a map for each stage that will keep the torque within limits for the 'box. this means you can still have the power, just the torque is reduced.

But hey there.....power is for the race track - torque is for the real world. Torque is what SAABs are all about. I remember saying the same about a Norton Commando I had 30 years ago. Any of you remember Norton's advertising - "Norton - lotta torque about". Apologies for that outburst of emotion.

Are you sure this is the case with the 9000 Aero or FPT upgrades, as the standard FPT (and therefore a standard Aero auto) had to be torque limited by the factory because it was above the 300Nm rating of the ZF automatic gearbox....

I believe (although I'm not sure where I heard this) that they limit it to some higher rating (400Nm? - the Maptun stage 1 Aero gets well over this for a manual - see http://maptun.com/webshop/products.php?rub...=80&graf=nm - so it would still be a reduction for an auto)

You "heard it" by reading my post of a couple of weeks ago.

Maptun's website states:

"Cars with automatic gearbox.
In order to avoid straining the automatic gearbox we choose to limit torque to 400 Nm.

Maximum power will be the same as cars with manual gearbox, only mid-range torque is limited."

Now then, I would like a bit of extra grunt from my FPT, but having recently paid for my third autobox repair (it overheated in the southern French summer), I am most reluctant to go from 300Nm to 400Nm, even if I was careful in first and second gears. McScooby tried tuning an FPT auto, and it all seemd to end in tears.
