Hello forum!
I'm concerned about the well being of my engine.
It has about 240k Km
A couple days ago I went to a mechanic to have a look below the car as it was making a weird noise driving over bumps.
That problem is solved, what scared me was the amount of oil I saw that was below the engine when the car was in the elevator.
It is not dripping oil, the level is still good but it was a mess.
I also noticed that the car was making a bit of a greyish/black smoke but not that much to concern me.
I went to a car wash and asked to clean the engine so that tomorrow I can leave it in the mechanic to have a look.
Today I also noticed that the coolant reservoir seems a bit low. To be fair I made about 1500km since I topped it up a month ago, most of them in rush hour traffic, the car doesn't go over the middle of the temperature gauge but gets there in about 10/15min.
My worst fear is that I have a blown head gasket.
Could it be??
I don't see anything weird in the oil dipstick or any difference in the colour.
The coolant reservoir seems alright as well.
I can see that the valve cover gasket seems to be leaking but I'm not sure, but that gives me hope that I may have a leak there and the coolant may be leaking somewhere I don't notice.
Is it usual for the 2.2 to blow the head gasket???
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks

Hello Paulo
First thing is " Don't panic !!!!"
Grey / black smoke normally means it's over fuelling.
So I would start by looking for either a boost or air leak
Oil is a messy substance and a minor leak can look bad .
Get the engine bay cleaned down with some degreasing agent ( not a steam clean ) as that can cause electrical wobbles .
If you are concerned about head gasket then a sniff test will put your mind at reast

Thanks for the reply.
My mechanic should be able to have a look at it tomorrow as he was busy today..
Hopefully it's not that bad, I'll let you know the outcome

Turns out the parts company that my mechanic works with closed due to the virus, so I will only take care of the car once things go back to normal :(
