Hey guys, My baby has a problem. around 162,000mi. Today when I tried to start her, the shifter went loose, will not crank. Car stuck in neutral. Do I start by looking under shifter for issues or at transmission?

Lizzyssaab,

Sounds like there is a problem with the gear shift lever. You don't say but I am guessing you have an automatic. The lever activates a couple of switches which allow cranking to go ahead. Since your lever has gone sloppy then there is no guarantee that these contacts are being made. It should only start in the P ( park ) or N ( neutral ) positions. Are you assessing that the car is in neutral since it can be rolled back and forwards. If the connection between lever and box is not longer correctly connected then this is where to look first.
