B207E/L Share the same turbo (Garrett GT2052) just in a different state of tune/map with some physical adjustments and tweaks such as boost levels.

Mitsu td04 11t/12t from 2006-11 or variations thereof but smaller turbo than B207R version. 1.8t part nos 55557611 or 55562671 or 55564940

Believe the 9-3ss aero runs the 15t TD04 (he says hoping his memory hasn't got that bad!*&^?!)

so the middle ground would be for someone like noobtune to map the car to something of similar power as hirsch i.e 195? but not max it to the 220

you still wouldn't be able to get the warranty etc but you would save money?

This grey area is all down to experience and reputation, a excellent mapper with excellent rep is a safe bet and it is a bet/gamble unless they offer a cast iron warranty/guarantee and even then if a component fails it can always be put down to wear and tear. A good mapper will want to know the history of the car and will expect it to have recently been properly serviced and no faults. Strong engine, turbo/drivetrian as a point to start.

There are a lot of people offering mapping who simply buy generic maps off of the internet from companies who have developd them and call themselves mappers or specialists - they could well be but they can also be a chap with a laptop and no real world experience either. This is true of a lot of VAG mappers.

Experience/Reputation is everything - or at least should be. If you buy purely on price then you should probably save your money.

Noob tunes the 210BHP aero to 254BHP which is further than Hirsch stage 1 at 240. this could be for many reasons but Karl is happy with that and has many, many happy customers...

Yes I think that's the one :) I think it's impt that peeps know that the 1.8t did infact use 2 differnet turbos over the car's lifespan. Previous 9-3 models in LPT and FPT (150/154 and 185) form just used garrett with the Mitsu just used on the HOT 200/205/225 variants. I think it was a good thing to move from garrett to mitsu. The garrett on my previous 2001 9-3 was smoking at 48k on the clock! (the sump wasn't blocked funnily enough!)

Cheers,

Al
