My 99 Saab 9-3 has been making a whining noise when I'm in second gear, when I push the clutch in it disappears. It only does it in second gear and has gotten noticeably louder in the last few days. Does anyone know what this might be and if it's something serious? Thank you.

I nearly always hear a whining sound when the engine is cold. The sump was dropped and the strainer checked/cleaned and the latest pcv upgrade was done earlier this year. It happens at about slightly over 1000rpm. Could the turbo be speeding up at this speed? James.
