Hi, Does anyone have any advice on whether I should use super unleaded for my 93 2.0 Aero HOT (2000)? I have read a bit about the gains only being realised in certain types of cars, so just trying to work out if it's worth paying the extra and whether I will see any MPG and performance...
  3. Saab 9-3 Sedan/Combi/TurboX/AWD(2003+)/Conv(2004+)
The gas filler cap on my 2004 9-3 vert recommends 90 octane, with a minimum allowed 87 AOR (I assume that's average octane rating?) My first couple of tanks were 93, then 90, and I've just filled the tank with 87 octane regular unleaded. The car seems to run the same regardless. Any worries...
  4. Classic Saab 900 (1979 - 1993)
I have just bought myself a really nice 1986 C reg 2 door 900 sedan with only 42k on the clock and 1 owner. Can anyone confirm with me that this should be ok to run on unleaded petrol? It is just the basic carb model.

Hello everyone I'm taking delivery of an 07 reg 9-5 Aero on Friday this week and I have noticed that the sales invoice details say that the car runs on Premium Unleaded. Is this actually the case and how essential is it to stick to the premium fuel? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

My daily trolley is a 97 9000 2.0 Turbo LPT 136k and a great car having owned it now for coming on 4 months. Anyway the other day when filling up I decided to fill with Super Unleaded (Total Excellium) and what a difference. Ok my other car is a 2001 Volvo T4 and that always get run on V-Power...

Hi all, Recently traded my 9-5 Aero 'wagon for a 9-3 Aero 'wagon (2.0). Now, when running on Super in the 9-5, there was significant increase in performance (especially in the summer - when we had one!). Does it make much difference in the 9-3?? I've just filled up with some to try it out as...
  8. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
Well I know that using higher octane fuel gives obvious benefits but I have never seen such a difference as it makes to a 9000 Aero. Normally I always use Ultimate/V Power, but Friday I was so low on fuel that I had to stop at the first station I found, unfortunately it was one that didn't stock...
  9. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
I suspect this may previously have been covered but have just acquired a 9-5 Aero 250 which is supposed to run on super unleaded. What difference do you think it makes compared to regular?I think the engine is safe from damage on either-Am I correct? In my old 9-5 2.3 soft turbo,I wasn't able to...
  10. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
I have a modified aero apparently 275bhp though I wish someone could tell me exactly what I have under the bonnet.... I have tried running it on unleaded and super unleaded and it seems to run no better from a performance point of view or a consumption POV with superunleaded. Am I causing any...

A cheapskate writes: Can any of the popular ecu upgrades (for a 9-5 2.3 lpt) be run using 95-octane unleaded? None of my usual petrol haunts sell Super-UL and the local Shell charges a fortune for Optimax (and indeed, all their fuel, the Shell over by St Albans on the M25/M1 jubction sells...
  13. Help, Advice, Saabs and Motoring
I often see petrol stations offering some kind of enhanced/super/optimax unleaded petrol beside the regular stuff. It's usually about 5p/l dearer and claims all sorts of benefits. Does it actually make any difference? I'm sceptical about these things and it costs me enough to fill the tank as...

Had some Unleaded in a petrol can for about 4 months now - will it still be okay to use, or will it knacker my engine?
  15. Saab Recommendations
I've been using the above in my car for a few weeks now and I must say I'm impressed with the performance I've been getting from it. My car is running very high boost levels, no known mods but it appears that the APC is very "tolerant" and is allowing boost to build to the kind of levels...

I've looked at various post on here, but can anyone tell me roughly what Bhp increase can be had by swapping from Unleaded to Super Unleaded? Also, what about the difference after adding octane boosters? I use normal unleaded at the moment, but I thought I'd ask here before wasting more money...

  18. Classic Saab 900 (1979 - 1993)
I am picking up my first this Saturday after purchasing as a trade sale from a local non Saab dealer. We have tried to contact the past regarding the type of fuel he used but without luck. The model is an E plate (1988) - 8 V Turbo. I have been told told that I can use unleaded or 4 star petrol...
  19. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
Would a 1989 (F reg) 9000i have been built to run on unleaded or would it need to be adapted? The car came to me with no history so I'v no idea what it was run on before but it sailed through the MOT emissions test with very low emissions from unleaded fuel. However, it does feel a tad sluggish...
