My crankshaft pulley [torsional vibration damper] fell apart so I got a new one with new belt and tensioner. I fitted all these new parts after some grief with the pulley. We used a handy screwdriver to lock the flywheel from above through a hole in the bell housing. The PROBLEM is now the belt...

Hi all, having a very small issue with my car. It's nothing major, just more of an annoyance. When the engine is cold and idling there is a rattle coming from the aux drive-belt. As soon as I touch the throttle, the noise goes away. It then comes back again once idling. When the engine is hot...

I'm replacing my seat belt tension-er bar in my 99 9-3 SE Turbo. Does anyone know how it opens up so that I can switch out the seat belts with my existing ones or know where I can get a diagram on how to install the seat belts into the tension-er bar? It looks like I need to remove the headrest...

Hi Just when I thought things settled down, the Carlson has an issue! Its been driving fine but I noticed, out of the blue, that the engine was noisy. On further investigation, it sounded like timing chain. I've had a closer look and it looks to be the case. The car has done 114,000 and had a...

It looks like the tensioner pulley is shot. Does anybody know of a good how to link for replacing it. Also the AC compressor does not work (leak somewhere), when I rethread the belt can I rethread without including the compressor using the same size belt? Many thanks in advance, M

Hello All, Just had a failure and need a spare part PDQ to get back on the road. Its the small casting that carries the aux belt tensioner on a 2.3 aircon engine. It bolts to the timing case (aka front cover) with 2 hex bolts and 1 countersunk star drive screw. I could do with the countersunk...

Hi All, Around two weeks ago the auxiliary belt was shredded and I managed to change the belt with a home made tool to turn the tensioner and loosen the belt. I was able - just mind - to get access from the side of the car once I'd removed the wheel and the plastic cover inside (forgot what...

Hello, Trouble at mill.  Lost power steering today, pulled over and at first sight it looked like the serpentine belt had slipped off.  Further investigation, however, revealed that the (quite new) tensioner was lolling about. It looks like bracket that the pulley part of it (as opposed to...

Can anyone tell me how much the tensioner can move? I am fitting a new belt, and have checked that the belt length is correct, but cannot get enough slack to fit the belt. I can only see about 5mm movement when I compress the tensioner. Is this normal? The car is a 1996 9000 Turbo hatchback.

Hi...further to my thread further down the board, I decided to fit a shorter (6PK 1805) drive belt to bypass my dodgy air-con compressor. I got the old belt off no problem, but as I was trying to fit the new one the back of the slot on the drive belt tensioner (into which you insert a 1/2 inch...

Hi all I have a 1999 9-5 Aero Hot. The head gasket went a few months ago and I had it replaced. When I got the car back, I was told that the auxiliary belt tensioner was stuck, and it was a nightmare fro them to put the belt back on. I've baught a new one but cant see how to get in to change...

I have a Saab 93 SS 03 1.8T. It’s only done 34k miles but it has developed a rough engine noise when stationary and also gives a slight vibration, however when moving the car is fine and no loss of power. I’ve been told by a Saab specialist that it an issue with the balance chain tensioners and...

I have a slight oil leak from the Timing Chain Tensioner (2002 9-5 Aero). Anyone replaced theirs and was it easy enough for me or my local garage to do it?

The car: Saab 9-5 2,0t Biopower Automatic 2006, 5200km (32311 miles) Hi folks, when i start my car there is a thump noise (several thumps when cold and one when hot) right as the engine ignites. From another forum we got the tip that we should check the belt tensioner. Looking at the belt...

Does anyone know a quick way to remove the timing chain cover to replace the timing chain tensioner which seems to have broken at the bottom as it is now loose. If you remove all the bits around the cover and the pulley, then remove the 2 small bolts from the head, and the ones that fix it to the...

Hi folks, Just changed the tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt as it self destructed a few days ago. As a precaution I also changed the other idler pulley and the serpentine belt. The problem I now have is that the bolt (l/hand threaded one) gets rather warm with the engine running - is...

Been trying to replace Belt Tensioner Pulley for my 1999 9-3 2.0 Turbo. Bought a pattern part, and garage couldn't fit it - locating dowel on back too large for hole on engine. Bought genuine part from Elkparts, and garage had same problem. Help! Existing tensioner bearings making nasty...
